Parrott Foundation Donation Propels Tweed Library Building Fund Closer to Finish Line

The John M. & Bernice Parrott Foundation continues to make a difference in the Municipality of Tweed touching the lives of its citizens in so many different ways.  Their latest gift was a $75,000.00 donation to the new Tweed Public Library building fund.   This donation follows on the footsteps of a $10,000.00 donation to the Tweed and Area Arts Council marble church and a $50,000.00 donation to the Erin Palmateer community swimming pool.

“We are so grateful to the Parrott Foundation for their very generous donation to our new community public library building fund.  It is often so difficult for small communities such as Tweed to raise the funds necessary to undertake great community initiatives.  Smaller communities really do need outside support and the Parrott Foundation always seems to come through..  They have been extremely generous to this community,” said Don DeGenova, Library Board Trustee and Fundraising Chair.

Construction on the new 5000 sq. ft. library started in June and it is anticipated that the facility will be completed by October 2010.  Total construction is estimated to be $900,000.00.  “The Parrott Foundation gift brings the total raised to 89% of the budgeted amount. “, noted Don.  He went on to say: “The community is required to raise $300,000.00 and the Parrott Foundation donation brings us to 66% of that target.”

E. Marguerite Cooke, President of the John M. & Bernice Parrott Foundation wrote: “Each year,  the Foundation receives many requests for support which fall within its mandate whish is to assist in improving the quality of life in the Quinte area.  It is our pleasure, this year, to support your organization.”

“I couldn’t be more overwhelmed or excited about this amazing and generous gift”, claimed a jubilant and smiling Cathy Andersen, CEO, Tweed Municipal Public Library.  “The Parrott Foundation donation brings us that much closer to our dream of a new library which will cater to the needs of all citizens in this great Municipality”.

The John M. & Bernice Parrott Foundation is a philanthropic organization which has made countless donations to Quinte area programs and institutions.

The Tweed Public Library continues to be a center where all are welcome regardless of social or economic status treating all citizens equally, offering a level playing field for all those who would like to avail themselves of their services.  Library Board Trustees include: Al McNeil, Chair;  Cathy Andersen, Library CEO; Jo-Anne Albert, Reeve; Carolynne Campbell; Terry DaSilva; Mary-Lou Munroe; Anne Mackenzie, and Don DeGenova.
